The position is located on the Randwick site of NSW Health Pathology. The surrounding area has beautiful beaches, cafes, and many open green spaces, with direct transport access from the central station via bus and the new tram system. The Randwick precinct is progressing into an area for both advanced academia, diagnostic medical work, and research. The site includes Prince of Wales Public Hospital, Prince of Wales Private Hospital, Royal Hospital for Women, and the Sydney Children's Hospital.

We operate more than 60 laboratories and around 200 collection centres across NSW and conduct over 60 million tests per annum. Our network of pathologists is supported by scientists, technicians, and support staff who quickly and accurately assess samples so clinical teams can make the best possible treatment decisions for patients. Our Forensic & Analytical Science Service provides independent, objective analysis to the NSW criminal and coronial justice systems.

What you'll be doing

The post mortem assistant coordinates and liases with Anatomical Pathologists, donor coordinator, post-mortem coordinators, social workers and funeral directors to provide an appropriate and respectful service for the deceased.

* Demonstrated experience performing post mortems and any associated duties in a mortuary.
* Demonstrated knowledge of fundamental anatomy and physiology, and a basic understanding of medical terminology.
* Proven ability to work with the deceased in an environment that could be distressing, ensuring to raise any associated concerns and/or need for support, and adopt self-care strategies.
* Ability to work in a responsible and efficient manner in a team environment, and to effectively communicate with all members of the multidisciplinary team.
* Display initiative and attention to detail in all aspects of clinical and clerical work practices.
* Commitment to the principles of continuous quality improvement activities, Work Health & Safety, and infection control guidelines.
* Willingness to work shift work and participate in an on-call roster, and travel in accordance with the demands of the role holding a current NSW driver's license.
* Demonstrated capacity to adopt and model the NSWHP RITE values of Respect, Integrity, Teamwork and Excellence.
