You're willing to try complex and diverse work.
You have the opportunity to gain a wealth of expertise and a diverse range of skills, providing insight and knowledge without losing sight of your work-life balance or wellbeing.
In this role, you'll:
Provide technical management and engineering stewardship across Sydney Trains' operational wireless systems, applying Systems Engineering practice throughout the full asset lifecycle. You'll work across wireless systems including 4G and 5G technologies, RF systems, radio network design, antenna subsystems, transmission paths, cabling, and installation on rollingstock and other rail infrastructure associated interfaces.
Lead and contribute to systems engineering and integration activities, including requirements collection, system context and interface definition, architectural mapping, testing activities, configuration change management, and system assurance to ensure wireless systems are delivered fit‑for‑purpose. Your work ensures each wireless system is engineered, integrated and maintained to perform reliably in an operational rail environment.
Support project and program delivery by collaborating with key stakeholders. You'll play a key role in technical planning, facilitating commissioning and change management for new or upgraded wireless systems, and helping ensure system performance, reliability and integrity over time.

About you
Hold tertiary qualifications in an Engineering discipline, preferred to be majoring in telecommunications engineering (or equivalent), qualifying for professional membership of the Institution of Engineers Australia.
Demonstrated Systems Engineering experience, including a minimum of three years' experience in practical application of Systems Engineering methodologies across system development life-cycle stages from specifications to verification and validation, ideally within operational technology, wireless networks, telecommunications or other high‑reliability environments.
Solid technical knowledge of wireless telecommunications including 4G/5G technologies, RF systems, radio network design, antenna systems, transmission links, cabling standards, equipment installation and fault finding across multi-vendor or multi‑technology environments. You're comfortable translating engineering detail into clear decisions and recommendations.
You're a clear communicator and can work collaboratively with diverse technical and operational teams, and thrive in environments where safety, engineering discipline and reliability are essential.
