What You'll Be Doing
Due to our company's continued and sustained growth we have an opportunity for an enthusiastic Graduate Ecologist to join our dynamic and highly respected team of environmental professionals in our Coffs Harbour (or Armidale) office in 2026.
The role of Graduate Ecologist is to provide ecological and environmental support and services to the CHARM (Coffs Harbour and Armidale) office and clients in the renewable energy, mining local government and conservation sectors. It's primarily a fieldwork role – you'll be working with experienced ecologists on a diverse range of flora and fauna assessments, learning from some of the best in the industry. The role will involve planning for and undertaking field surveys, organising and analysing field data, report writing, proposal preparation.
In this role you will:
* Be part of a team of respected environmental professionals providing ecological and environmental management services to projects in the renewable energy, mining, local government and conservation sectors.
* Plan and undertake flora and fauna field surveys, accompanying our senior staff conducting vegetation assessments, threatened species surveys, biodiversity monitoring, and occasional vegetation clearing supervision (fauna spotter/catcher services).
* Collect, organise and analyse data collected in the field, including floristic plot data, drone and motion sensor camera imagery, acoustic recordings, spatial data and species count records.
* Prepare project proposals, participate in project planning and management, and develop relationships with our clients, both existing and new.
* Prepare reports detailing survey and assessment findings-your strong report writing skills and ability to interpret and relate scientific information will come into play here.
* Hone your ecological field skills, learning from on-the-job training and mentoring with our leading team of ecologists and respected environmental professionals.
* Participate in multidisciplinary projects and gain experience and knowledge across a range of environmental sciences.
What You'll Bring (selection criteria)
To be successful, you will have:
* You are passionate about ecology and the environment Please provide a 300-word summary on why you are committed to a career in ecology, including your enthusiasm for hands-on field work and leading with science to improve environmental outcomes in Australia.
* A degree in Ecology, Zoology, Environmental Science or related discipline.
* Experience in field ecology – please detail your existing field/outdoor/bush skills gained through previous work experience, volunteering, leisure and/or your studies.
* Willingness to work on a range of development projects, including coal mines, wind and solar projects, and providing spotter/catcher services for development projects (training and supervision provided).
* Sound communication and writing skills – you may be asked to provide a sample of your report writing.
* Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with others.
* Can-do attitude and self-starter initiative with good time management skills.
* An awareness of relevant New South Wales and Commonwealth legislation.
* A good level of physical fitness and agility that will enable your participation in field work in a variety of climates and terrains.
* Current NSW driver's licence and demonstrated safe driving record. A manual licence is an advantage.
* A sound working knowledge and practical experience using MS Office.
* Australian residency or citizenship.
