ABOUT THE ROLE
AHA has a full-time employment opportunity for a technical leader to join our team as the Head of AUSVETPLAN. Reporting to the General Manager, Emergency Preparedness and Surveillance, this position leads the nationally‐agreed approach for responding to emergency animal disease (EAD) incidents in Australia via the Australian Veterinary Emergency Plan (AUSVETPLAN).
Primary responsibilities of the role include:
* Leading and managing the AUSVETPLAN program, overseeing multiple projects and work streams to ensure the successful delivery of the program in relation to scope, budget, timeline, and alignment to AHA.
* Developing and maintaining project plans, approvals, implementation and communications relating to AUSVETPLAN.
* Applying scientific and technical knowledge to animal health and biosecurity industry issues, actively working towards national solutions.
* Chairing AUSVETPLAN meetings and playing a lead role in industry events and agenda preparation.
* Contributing to AHA's EAD response activities should an EAD response be enacted.
* Applying project management methodology, process, monitoring, evaluation, and best practice to support the AUSVETPLAN program.

Total remuneration for this position is from $155k (including super) and will be commensurate with the successful candidate's level of experience.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Essential
* Tertiary qualifications in Veterinary Science and current Australian Veterinary registration.
* Extensive knowledge of Australia's animal biosecurity emergency preparedness and response arrangements.
* Extensive knowledge of and experience in Australia's animal health and biosecurity systems, including policy and regulatory frameworks.
* Demonstrated experience in project / program management.
* Superior interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
* Sound time management and organisational skills whilst managing competing priorities.
* Ability to distil complex scientific information into plain English suitable for non-technical audiences.
* Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain relationships and networks with members and key stakeholders.
* Proficient in Microsoft Teams, contemporary Microsoft Office software applications, internet communication tools and database management.
* Advanced level technical skills in animal health, welfare and biosecurity.
* Project management qualifications and/or experience.
