Centre Coordinator

Part-Time (30 hours per week)Palmerston, NT

Funded until 30 June 2026 (may be ongoing)

The Top End Mental Health Consumer Organisation (TEMHCO) is seeking a Centre Coordinator to support the delivery of recovery-focused, peer-led programs at our Palmerston drop-in centre, operating Monday to Friday 9am to 2.30pm. This role is ideal for someone passionate about mental health, community connection, and creating welcoming, safe, and inclusive spaces where people feel respected, supported, and empowered. This is a non-clinical role. TEMHCO does not deliver NDIS-funded services, though NDIS participants may attend the centre.

About the Role

You will coordinate the day-to-day activities of the centre, support consumers to engage in meaningful programs, oversee support workers and volunteers, and work closely with the CEO to ensure smooth operations. The role requires a culturally responsive and trauma-informed approach, and some flexible hours, including occasional after-hours or weekend work for events, excursions, and community activities.

Key Responsibilities:

· Coordinate recovery-focused programs and daily centre activities

· Oversee support workers (casual and part-time) and the centre cleaner

· Facilitate weekly staff meetings and monthly members meetings, including agenda preparation and accurate minutes

· Organise in-service and information sessions with community organisations

· Build and maintain strong relationships with local services to enhance consumer access and engagement

· Support administration, reporting, newsletters, and accurate record-keeping

· Assist with community engagement, fundraising, and awareness initiatives

· Safely drive a 12-seater Toyota Hiace and transport members on excursions

· Contribute to maintaining a safe, welcoming, and inclusive centre environment

You are a resilient, organised, and people-focused professional with demonstrated lived experience of mental health challenges, and the ability to use that experience in a safe, reflective, and recovery-oriented way to support others. You bring strong boundaries, good judgement, and confidence using digital systems. You value working in a consumer-led, inclusive, culturally responsive, and trauma-informed environment. To be eligible for this position, applicants must hold current and valid work rights in Australia.

Selection Criteria

Essential Requirements:

· Relevant qualification or minimum two (2) years' experience working with people living with mental illness

· Demonstrated lived experience of mental health challenges and commitment to consumer-led, recovery-focused practice

· Demonstrated cultural competency and ability to work respectfully with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and diverse communities

· Experience applying trauma-informed practice in a community or mental health setting

· Experience coordinating group-based programs for people with complex needs

· Strong interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills

· Strong digital literacy across databases, email, documents, spreadsheets, and social media

· Demonstrated resilience and ability to maintain professional boundaries

· Solution-focused approach and ability to build positive working relationships

· Ethical, respectful, and confidential practice

· Experience liaising with community organisations and stakeholders

· Experience supporting staff, volunteers, or students

· Strong organisational and time-management skills

· Basic bookkeeping skills, including petty cash reconciliation

· Current NT Driver's Licence, Ochre Card, and National Police Check (to be maintained throughout employment)

Desirable:

· Awareness of the NDIS environment (not service delivery)

· Experience supporting grant writing or fundraising activities in a community or not-for-profit setting
