This pay rate is inclusive of mandatory 25% casual loading We are seeking two experienced and agile EL1 Public Affairs Officers to support the Department's after-hours media function and deliver high-quality written communication content on a rotating week-on/week-off roster. Key responsibilities: Monitor and respond to media enquiries : 6.00pm-9.00pm on business days (Canberra time) 9.00am-5.00pm on weekends, shutdowns, and public holidays (plus a 30-min break) Flexibility required to extend shifts (e.g. 4.00pm starts, post-9.00pm finishes) when urgent work arises Draft and coordinate responses to media requests, using established checklists and approval processes Develop and edit communications content, including media packs, speeches, talking points and other products Provide strategic communication advice to internal stakeholders and ministerial offices Publish ministerial media releases to the department's website as required Monitor and moderate the department's social media channels Skills and experience required: Strong experience in media liaison, issues management or public affairs within government or a similar environment Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills Confidence working independently in high-pressure or time-sensitive environments Familiarity with government protocols, ministerial processes and digital publishing systems This is a high-trust, high-impact role suited to confident communicators who thrive under pressure and are comfortable working outside regular business hours.
