As a Senior Network Engineer, your role is pivotal in designing, implementing, and managing the networking infrastructure of the organisation. Your responsibilities encompass various key areas and require a blend of technical prowess, problem-solving acumen, and leadership skills. Below are the primary responsibilities and skills associated with this role:
1. Network Design:
* Designing network solutions aligned with organisational requirements for performance, security, and scalability.
* Developing network topologies, selecting suitable hardware and software components, and planning for redundancy and failover.
2. Implementation:
* Overseeing the implementation of network infrastructure based on finalised designs.
* Configuring routers, switches, firewalls, and other networking devices.
* Deploying network services like DHCP, DNS, and VPNs.
3. Troubleshooting:
* Utilising advanced troubleshooting skills to diagnose and resolve complex network issues.
* Analysing network traffic, conducting packet captures, and employing diagnostic tools to identify root causes.
4. Security:
* Ensuring the security of the organisation’s network infrastructure.
* Implementing security best practices such as ACLs, encryption, IDS/IPS systems.
* Staying updated with the latest security threats and vulnerabilities.
5. Performance Optimisation:
* Continuously monitoring network performance and identifying areas for enhancement.
* Optimising network configurations, upgrading hardware/software, and implementing QoS policies.
6. Documentation:
* Maintaining comprehensive documentation of network infrastructure, including diagrams, configurations, and troubleshooting procedures.
* Ensuring consistency and facilitating knowledge transfer within the team.
7. Team Leadership:
* Leading a team of network engineers and technicians.
* Providing guidance, mentoring junior members, and coordinating projects to ensure timely completion within budget.
8. Continuous Learning:
* Staying updated with the latest developments and trends in networking technology.
* Participating in training programs, attending conferences, and obtaining relevant certifications such as Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) and Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP).
