Overview

Carmichael College is a dynamic, developing College, committed to educational excellence in an overt and distinctly Christian environment. We are a non-denominational, independent Christian school located in Morayfield, Queensland. Currently the College offers a Prep to Year 12 program. With a current student population of 870, projections indicate that student numbers will peak at around 1,400.

Position Summary

Title of Position: Instrumental Music Tutor for Strings/Woodwind Tuition across Middle School & Secondary

Type of Appointment: Contract – 1 year commencing February 2026

The College is seeking applications from experienced, self-motivated Specialist Instrumental Tutors in Strings, Woodwind, Brass and Percussion to join the Co‐Curricular Arts Department. The position will commence with approximately 1 day per week, with the possibility of increasing subject to enrolment requests.

Role: Provides exceptional support to our expanding Academy of The Arts. The successful applicant will be a highly trusted member of the wider team of Arts colleagues across Primary & Secondary school.

The Role

* Ability to effectively provide a high level of instrumental music expertise to assist each child to reach their full potential and to help build a culture of excellence in Instrumental Music.
* Provide expertise in individual and group lessons.
* Effectively lead Ensemble/Band rehearsals where requested.
* Provide a written progress report to parents for encouraging growth.

Context

Instrumental tutors are contracted to the College in a peripatetic capacity; parents are billed directly by the tutor. Tuition fees are at an agreed rate as directed by the college, aligned with QMTA rate for 2026. This position supports the development of correct playing technique of students in Year 3 and above, paving the way for preparing students for performances, and where suitable for particular student's exams.

The Person

* A passion for teaching both the instrument and young people.
* Commitment to a personal faith in Jesus Christ and able to translate faith into practice.
* Personal philosophies that align with, and fully support the College mission, values and beliefs as expressed in the College Statement of Faith.
* High-level organisational skills to plan lessons, learning sequences, track student progress, rehearsals, report and communicate with students, colleagues, and the wider school community, effectively and in a timely manner.
* Relevant experience and/or tertiary qualification in Music demonstrating an aptitude for the role.
* A willingness to participate in rehearsals, concerts, and workshop events as directed.
* Familiarity with and experience in preparing students for examination systems such as AMEB and Trinity is an advantage.
* Strong interpersonal skills to engage with children, staff, parents, and the wider school community with a positive, collegial, and team-oriented approach.
* Ability to work independently and collaboratively, maintaining professionalism and high standards.
* Proficiency in Information Communication Technology.
* Flexibility, forward thinking, enthusiasm, confidence with decision making, and excellent problem-solving skills.
* Great attention to detail and demonstration of team participation, with a high level of responsiveness is essential.
* Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality is essential.
* A current (Employee) Blue Card (working with children check) is mandatory.
