The Role
The Senior Financial Accounting Specialist provides authoritative technical accounting advice and leads improvement initiatives to strengthen financial governance, reporting quality, and compliance. The role applies deep expertise in Australian Accounting Standards to resolve complex accounting issues and emerging risks. With a strong focus on continuous improvement, the position modernises accounting policies, processes, and controls, ensuring statutory obligations are met efficiently while improving the quality and usability of financial information. The role operates with a high degree of professional judgement, influencing senior stakeholders and supporting better financial decision‐making across the agency. The role also leads financial professional development and capability uplift.

* Location: Canberra – ACT
* Salary: $141,714 – $165,150
Duties Include
* Provide high‐quality, evidence‐based advice to senior executives on finance reform priorities, risks, and impacts.
* Lead the development and delivery of finance training programs to strengthen technical accounting capability, support workforce development, and embed better practice across the organisation.
* Develop, review, and maintain robust accounting policies, procedures, accounting positions and internal controls.
* Provide authoritative advice on complex accounting issues and risks arising from new programs, transactions, and projects.
* Build productive relationships with business areas, auditors, and external stakeholders to support delivery of finance outcomes.
* Identify and address inefficiencies, risks, and control weaknesses in financial processes, applying contemporary solutions and better practices.
* Lead change management and stakeholder engagement to ensure finance improvements are effectively embedded and sustained.
Eligibility
Australian citizenship – The successful candidate must be an Australian citizen.
Security clearance – The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Baseline security clearance.
