**Manager Cyber Security & Risk - Strategic Leadership | Identity & Compliance | Higher Ed**

**About the Role**
Our client is seeking a Manager Cyber Security & Risk to lead the strategic direction and operational delivery of the university's cyber security, compliance, risk and identity environment.
Reporting to the Head of IT Operations, this role leads a small, high-performing team and engages across senior leadership, academics, researchers, and operational IT units to deliver a strong cyber posture in line with frameworks like ISO27001 and WA Cyber Security Policy.
You'll have oversight of identity management practices, incident response and business continuity while driving a program of improvement across security standards, reporting, and organisational resilience.
**What You'll Be Doing**
- Define, implement and own the university's cybersecurity, identity, risk and compliance strategy
- Lead a team covering governance, security ops and student/contractor engagement
- Act as primary liaison for audits, disaster recovery planning, and internal/external compliance
- Establish and report on performance metrics and risk indicators across all domains
- Work cross-functionally to embed best practice frameworks (ASD Essential 8, ISO27001)
- Drive the roadmap for uplift initiatives and continuous maturity improvement
- Engage with the broader university (academics, researchers, admin) to build awareness and deliver business-aligned solutions
- Provide technical and strategic input on emerging threats, vendor solutions and architectural uplift
**About You**
You're a people leader with a proactive, outcome-focused mindset. You bring deep expertise in information security, risk frameworks, and compliance, and you're comfortable influencing stakeholders from the C-suite to the classroom.
**Must-Have Skills & Experience**:
- Degree-qualified in Computer Science, Engineering or similar OR equivalent hands-on experience
- Significant experience delivering enterprise-wide cybersecurity and identity solutions
- Strong people leadership capability, including mentoring and team development
- Experienced in driving IT risk management, governance frameworks and compliance reporting
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills, including presenting to senior executives
**Bonus Points For**:
- CISSP, CISM or similar security/control certifications
- Experience in higher education or regulated government environments
- Understanding of WA's Digital Government Cyber Security Policy
