Banana Shire Council is looking for an enthusiastic and community‑minded Assistant Treatment Plant Operator to join our Water Services team in Theodore. About the Role
In this hands‑on role, you’ll support the safe and efficient operation of Council’s water and wastewater treatment infrastructure. Your day may include:
* Assisting with the operation and maintenance of treatment plants, bores, reservoirs, pump stations and chlorination facilities.
* Monitoring treatment processes, chemical dosing and key operational parameters.
* Collecting samples, performing routine analysis and updating SWIMs logs and records.
* Using SCADA/Telemetry systems to monitor alarms and process conditions.
* Responding to operational changes and reporting issues that may affect quality or supply.
* Supporting stocktakes, safe chemical handling and compliance activities.
* Liaising with the public, contractors and internal teams.
* Assisting in emergency and disaster management response when required.
About You
Mandatory
* Queensland ‘C’ class driver’s licence (provisional or higher).
* White Card (General Construction Induction).
* General labouring experience and a willingness to learn.
* Computer skills and the ability to complete basic documentation.
* Strong teamwork, communication and customer service skills.
* Commitment to WHS and EEO principles.
Desirable
* Certificate III in Water Industry (or willingness to complete one).
* Experience in water or wastewater operations.
Additional Requirements
* Participation in on‑call rosters, weekend and public holiday work.
* Physical capacity for labouring tasks.
* Compliance with immunisation and health monitoring requirements for “at‑risk” workers.
* Willingness to travel to other towns within the Shire when required.
