SafeWork NSW is the state's workplace health and safety regulator. Our focus is to protect NSW workers by preventing and reducing work-related fatalities, serious injuries, and illnesses by securing compliance with work health and safety and associated legislation.
About the role
You will play a key role in promoting best practice management of personal and health information across the organisation in collaboration with records and data governance subject matter experts. You will support the team to provide specialist guidance and advice to SafeWork NSW Inspectors and agency business units, including responses to privacy incidents and data breaches and ensuring compliance with NSW privacy legislation. You will also contribute to special projects focused on strengthening the organisation's privacy policies, processes, and governance. Your expertise will further develop a culture of privacy awareness and continuous improvement, ensuring the organisation maintains strong, compliant, and resilient information-handling practices.
Responsibilities
* Provide expert technical advice on privacy legislation, including the Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998 (PPIP Act) and the Health Records and Information Privacy Act 2002 (HRIP Act), to ensure privacy compliance in systems, processes, and practices within the context of the NSW Work Health and Safety Act 2011.
* Conduct privacy internal reviews and support the NSW Mandatory Notification of Data Breach Scheme to uphold privacy rights and ensure accountability in handling personal and health information.
* Maintain accurate records of privacy activities and assist with monthly reporting to the organisation's Data Breach Register.
* Maintain awareness of data governance and record-keeping obligations under the State Records Act (NSW) 1998 to complement recommendations that mitigate privacy risks – including those associated with the use of algorithms and AI.
* Contribute to the development and delivery of staff training to strengthen awareness of privacy obligations.
* Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, understanding their needs to develop practical, measurable governance solutions aligned with business requirements.
* Coordinate accurate and timely information flow across teams and stakeholders while managing competing priorities within required timeframes to support ongoing compliance and service delivery.
