As an established Staff Software Engineer, you will be building features that are data-driven and customer-centric, fostering that culture within the Group. You will work with CommBank’s global engineering community to utilise AI-assisted tools and capabilities that build our business banking functionality. With a Product Engineer mindset, you will experiment and train our engineers to ensure the best use of emerging AI technologies and promote a positive, productive environment. Responsibilities
Experimenting with emerging AI-assisted engineering tools and cloud services, providing feedback and insights from real-world testing Contributing to architectural discussions and proposing improvements, role modelling standards and best practices Collaborating with the team to tackle complex technical problems, contributing to design and implementation to ensure quality engineering outcomes Delivering robust and reusable solutions that integrate seamlessly into other teams’ workflows and products Translating requirements into engineering solutions, assisting in breaking down work and creating clarity for team members Actively participating in code reviews, maintaining high-quality codebases and assisting in documentation for knowledge sharing Working on cross-functional projects, ensuring alignment and addressing inter-dependencies Coaching and mentoring junior members in the team Qualifications
Extensive experience in designing and implementing scalable, maintainable and reliable software solutions Working knowledge of AI/ML and Gen AI applications and how they can enhance software engineering processes to improve productivity Experience developing applications using .NET, JavaScript frameworks (Next.js), APIs and databases such as Aurora Experience building RAGs using LlamaIndex, LangChain, or similar frameworks Experience building Agentic AI systems using AutoGen, SemanticKernel, Pydantic, or similar frameworks is preferred Proficiency in one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, TypeScript or C#) and experience developing microservices architecture on cloud platforms (AWS & Azure) A keen interest in researching new AI tooling and daily use of AI coding assistants Knowledge of or experience with Anthropic Claude, Llama, LiteLLM, Cursor, WindSurf / Codeium, VO Vercel, Continue, Aider, Cline, LangChain, LangGraph, Hugging Face is highly desirable Strong technical leadership skills and ability to collaborate with stakeholders to solve business-critical problems Ability to provide technical direction to teams, reviewing designs and code to ensure best practices Proficiency in agile development methodologies and iterative experimentation from ideation to prototype to pilot to product Working with us
