Financial Controller – 6‑Month Temporary Contract

An established organisation within the regional commercial sector is seeking an experienced Financial Controller to provide interim leadership across its finance function. This six‑month assignment offers the opportunity to step into a hands‑on, highly influential role supporting financial operations, compliance, and strategic reporting.
Your New Role
Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you will have full oversight of financial operations and play a key role in providing accurate reporting, governance, and team leadership. You will manage Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll and Administration, ensuring strong performance and effective financial controls.
Key responsibilities:
Lead, mentor, and oversee the finance team across AP, AR, payroll and administration.
Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports.
Manage the complete year‑end process, including statutory accounts and audits.
Maintain and improve financial systems, controls and processes.
Ensure compliance with accounting standards, internal policies and statutory obligations.
Prepare BAS, FBT, income tax and associated compliance submissions.
Assist with budgeting, forecasting and financial modelling.
Identify and implement efficiency and cost‑reduction opportunities.
Uphold confidentiality, WHS obligations, and strong risk‑management practices.
Travel to operational sites as required to support finance leadership duties.
What You'll Need to Succeed
Degree qualification with CPA (or equivalent) membership.
5–10 years' experience in a senior commercial finance role.
Strong technical accounting capability and advanced reconciliation skills.
Demonstrated leadership capability with strong stakeholder‑management skills.
Experience within operational, distribution or agricultural settings (advantageous).
Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365.
Advanced Excel and Power BI skills.
Strong organisational, time‑management and problem‑solving abilities.
Flexibility to meet deadlines and support operational requirements.
A current driver's licence and willingness to travel.
