Date Posted: 06th February 2026Position: Metal Machinist (First Class)Project: Coombes Residence – Internal Stair (Metalworks Package)Salary: $47.50 per hourDuration: Approx. 12-14 weeksMode: Project-based, non-ongoingLocation: 1 Ladbroke Street, Milperra, NSW 2214 Australia
About UsOgis Engineering is a leading provider of high-quality engineering and manufacturing solutions. We pride ourselves on precision, reliability, and technical expertise, delivering outstanding results to clients across multiple industries.
Role OverviewThis short-term project role focuses specifically on the machining and precision bending of brass profiles to fit custom stainless-steel handrail structures. This role will end upon project completion.
Key ResponsibilitiesMachining of Brass Profiles• Operate precision lathes, milling machines, and CNC equipment to machine custom brass profiles as per project drawings and tolerances.• Cut, drill, mill, and surface-finish brass sections to specified dimensions ensuring consistency in profile curvature and edge alignment.
Bending and Forming• Execute precision bending of brass components using hydraulic and manual presses to achieve the exact curvature required for handrail installation.• Verify angles and alignment using templates, gauges, and jigs to ensure seamless integration with stainless-steel substructures.
Assembly Preparation and Fitting• Machine and bend the underside of brass profiles to fit over stainless-steel bars and structural members forming the handrail framework.• Prepare joints, edges, and fixing points for on-site assembly and finishing.
Quality Control and Inspection• Measure finished components using micrometers, verniers, and other precision instruments to confirm dimensional accuracy.• Inspect machined and bent parts for surface defects, uniformity, and compliance with design drawings.
Technical Interpretation and Documentation• Read and interpret detailed CAD drawings, fabrication sketches, and job specifications.• Record machining parameters, bending angles, and production times for quality assurance and project reporting.
Tooling and Maintenance• Select and maintain appropriate cutting tools, dies, and bending equipment.• Perform daily maintenance checks and ensure safe operation of all machinery used in the machining process.
Health and Safety Compliance• Follow OGIS Engineering's safety policies and standard workshop procedures at all times.• Wear required PPE and ensure work areas remain clean and hazard-free.
Qualifications• Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade or equivalent recognised qualification (preferred but not mandatory)
Skills and Requirements:
* Minimum 1 year experience as a First-Class Metal Machinist, preferably in precision machining environments.
* Demonstrated experience working with brass, stainless steel, or non-ferrous materials.
* Valid White Card (Construction Induction) preferred but not essential.
* Forklift licence or experience operating material-handling equipment considered an advantage.
* Advanced ability to operate manual and CNC lathes, milling machines, and bending equipment.
* Strong blueprint reading and CAD drawing interpretation skills.
* High-level precision measurement skills using verniers, micrometers, gauges, and jigs.
* Strong understanding of machining tolerances, bending allowances, and material behaviour.
Project Specific Note and Non-Ongoing Confirmation
This engagement is limited exclusively to the Coombes Residence – Internal Stair (Metalworks Package), involving the machining and bending of the underside of brass profiles to fit stainless-steel bars.
The nature of this machining requirement is unique to this project and will not extend to future or ongoing works. Upon completion of the project, no further engagement will be required.
