FT Consultant Oncoplastic Surgeon with an interest in Oncoplastic

In the event that we are unable to appoint a candidate for the permanent role of Consultant Oncoplastic Surgeon with an interest in Oncoplastic (ref: 279-PPCONONCSUR-591), this post will be offered as a fixed-term appointment for 6 months initially with a view to extend for a further 6 months.
The service wishes to appoint a 1-year Fixed Term Consultant Breast Surgeon post with an interest in oncoplastic to support the Integrated Breast team in delivering an excellent service in symptomatic and screening Breast Disease.
The service is seeing an increasing population along with increased numbers of newly diagnosed patients.
It will provide an opportunity to enhance and develop our local services.
Main duties of the job
It is anticipated that applicants will be proficient in reconstructive surgery/oncoplastic techniques and able to immediately complement the existing service delivery, working with colleagues at Preston Park Breast Centre, Brighton.
The candidates will be part of a growing group of oncoplastic surgeons at UHS Sussex who aspire to provide patients with comprehensive surgical options, whilst working closely with our oncologists and radiologists.
The service continues to maintain and build relations with our Plastic Surgical Colleagues at Queen Victoria Hospital, who the service has close links with.

Job responsibilities
The clinical duties of the post include the following:
Alongside Consultant colleagues provide a comprehensive and patient focused breast surgical service including using the latest reconstructive and onco-plastic techniques.
Provide highest possible level of patient care.
Provide a comprehensive multi-disciplinary outpatient service and work closely with the teams.
To flexibly respond to the pressures and needs of the services.
Provide teaching, professional supervision and management of medical students, junior medical staff and allied health care professionals.
Participate in audits (national and local), quality improvement projects, research.

Person Specification
Experience/ Qualifications
FRCS or its recognised equivalent.
Full and specialist registration (with a licence to practise) with the GMC or be eligible for registration within six months of the interview.
If you trained in the UK, you must also have a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Breast Surgery and Oncoplastic Surgery or be within six months of receiving it by the interview date.
If you trained outside the UK, you must provide evidence that your qualifications are equivalent to the UK CCT.
(Equivalence must be confirmed by GMC by date of AAC)
Intercollegiate Fellowship diploma in General Surgery (or related discipline) with an interest Breast Surgery and Oncoplastic Surgery or equivalent
Membership of the Association of Breast Surgery
Membership of other relevant subspecialty organisations
MD or equivalent Higher Degree or evidence of relevant research
Clinical Skills and Experience
Experience in Surgical aspects of Breast Screening
Able to demonstrate clinical experience and skill in Breast Surgery and Oncoplastic Surgery (including of range of reconstructive techniques)
Commitment to working within the National Guidelines for Breast Cancer Management
Oncoplastic Fellowship or equivalent
Experience in pedicled flap procedures and OPS1 & OPS2
Knowledge
Breadth of experience in and outside specialty
Organisation and Planning
Experience and ability to work in multi-professional teams.
Understanding of: NHS / Clinical governance / Resource constraints
Evidence of managerial skills: Achievements / Course attended
Teaching Skills
Evidence of an interest and commitment to teaching
