Based in Whyalla reporting to the Senior Specialist Health, Hygiene & Safety, the Safety Specialist contributes to the success of Liberty Primary Steel (LPS) through the advice, support and mentoring on the full range of operational and strategic safety issues to the operational workforce inclusive of contracting groups.
The Safety Specialist supports a safety maturity and improvement culture and demonstrates behaviours consistent with Company values.
This role offers flexible working arrangement including FIFO optional.
Key responsibilities:
* Build and foster strong relationships across business units and support services
* Provide solid advice and solutions at both a strategic and tactical level by providing guidance and support on safety related issues, including investigations and risk mitigation
* Drive our continuous improvement and site safe systems of work framework
* Facilitate incident investigations, hazard identification and risk assessments
* Support line leaders to ensure the effective implementation and communication of the health and safety policy, standards, programs and procedures
* Conduct audits of business processes that are associated with inherently high-risk activities
* Support the implementation of new safety initiatives
* Coach and mentor workforce understanding of safe work practices
* Ensure compliance with relevant legislative requirements through observation, auditing and facilitating corrective actions.
About your experience
Our ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to influence outcomes, be energised and positive in nature, as well as have the drive and tenacity to be a strong advocate to making things happen. This will be coupled with decision-making capacity alongside conceptual thinking, problem solving, and auditing skills.
You also have:
* Relevant Health & Safety qualification(s) coupled with industry experience
* Strong understanding of safety best practice standards and relevant legislation/regulations
* Current and valid driving license essential
* Experience in conducting risk assessments and incident investigations
* Effective at influencing and coaching a wide variety of stakeholders
* Innovative and creative approach to safety with a proactive attitude
* Ability to work autonomously
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
* Competent in Windows Office OS environment
* Thorough appreciation of the need for confidentiality of information.
