About the Role
The Head of Department - Student Services at Doomadgee State School plays a critical leadership role in improving student learning outcomes and attendance, with a particular focus on supporting students from disadvantaged backgrounds. This role involves developing and implementing innovative strategies to ensure all students achieve quality learning outcomes, regardless of their circumstances.
To be successful in this role, candidates must demonstrate teaching competence and a proven capacity to lead others toward improved student outcomes. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential, as is the ability to build and maintain productive relationships within the school and wider community, including with students and families from diverse and often complex backgrounds. The role also demands strategic thinking and analytical skills to help drive educational improvement and requires effective management of people and resources. A deep commitment to ethical leadership and fostering an organisational culture grounded in professional and personal integrity is expected.
Your Responsibilities
As the Head of Department - Student Services, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
* Leading and supporting intervention strategies informed by the monitoring of student performance and behaviour, while also coordinating induction and support programs for new arrivals.
* Strategic management capabilities, including the preparation of data reports for the Principal and the creation of tools to assist the leadership team
* Strong engagement with parents, staff, higher education institutions, and various external organisations.
* Developing and implementing community engagement strategies, often in partnership with local businesses, non-profits, and agencies that support Indigenous students and families.
* Embed socially just practices across the school, particularly those that relate to attendance and academic success. This includes understanding and applying relevant legislation and policy, especially as it pertains to students and staff.
