As a Airconditioning and Refrigeration Mechanic you will be responsible for assembling, installing, maintaining, and repairing industrial, commercial, and domestic airconditioning and refrigeration systems and equipment. This role ensures that such systems operate efficiently and comply with relevant standards and regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Interpret technical drawings and specifications to determine job requirements and layout installation reference points.
2. Drill holes, install mounting brackets, and cut, bend, and thread piping.
3. Install and repair components such as compressors, motors, condensers, evaporators, switches, gauges, and copper lines for various fluids and gases.
4. Connect equipment using bolting, soldering, riveting, welding, and brazing techniques, ensuring alignment and accuracy of fit.
5. Fill systems with gas or fluid to check for leaks and test-operate refrigeration systems, making necessary adjustments.
6. Remove test gases and fluids using vacuum pumps and fill systems with refrigerant.
7. Diagnose faults and repair or replace defective components in refrigeration systems.
8. Adjust system controls and mechanisms and reassemble systems.
9. Record causes of malfunctions and actions taken.
10. Install HVAC and refrigeration systems, components, ductwork, and piping.
11. Set up thermostats, electrical connections, and control systems.
12. Perform routine checks on systems (filters, refrigerant levels, electrical connections).
13. Clean coils, fans, and other components to ensure efficiency.
14. Repairs:
15. Diagnose faults and troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, or refrigerant issues.
16. Replace or repair faulty parts like compressors, fans, or sensors.
17. Test systems for proper operation, airflow, and cooling/heating capacity.
18. Check for refrigerant leaks using pressure gauges and leak detectors.
19. Follow environmental and safety regulations (like handling refrigerants responsibly).
20. Complete documentation and ensure systems meet legal and industry standards.
21. Advise clients on system use, upgrades, or energy efficiency.
22. Provide quotes, explain repair needs, and educate on preventative maintenance.
Qualifications and Experience
1. Completion of an Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) Certificate III in Airconditioning and Refrigeration.
2. At least 12 months of proven work experience as a Airconditioning and Refrigeration Mechanic
3. Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, electrical components, and control systems
4. Valid driver's licence.
Skills and Competencies
1. Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings and specifications.
2. Skilled in using tools and equipment for drilling, cutting, bending, threading, and assembling piping and components.
3. Knowledge of refrigeration and airconditioning systems, including the ability to diagnose and repair faults.
4. Understanding of safety protocols and regulations related to the handling of refrigerants and system components.
