An Adelaide based, rapidly growing, defence and advanced aerospace technology company is looking for a Lead Electronics Technician to support the build, integration, and testing of complex electronic systems used in high reliability applications. This is a strongly hands on role focused on practical electronics assembly, system integration, and testing, rather than documentation heavy or desk based work.
You will work closely with engineers and other technicians in a workshop and lab environment, assembling and integrating electronic subsystems from engineering documentation. The role involves working with PCBs, wiring looms, connectors, and mixed signal hardware, supporting systems through bring up, fault finding, and preparation for trials and demonstrations. While avionics experience is ideal, the role is also well suited to technicians from adjacent industries such as defence electronics, RF and radar systems, communications equipment, industrial electronics, robotics, or other complex embedded hardware products where build quality and reliability are critical.
This role suits an experienced electronics technician who enjoys owning how hardware is physically built, tested, and validated, and who is comfortable acting as a senior technical reference on the workshop floor while remaining deeply hands on.
This role is based in Adelaide and requires Australian citizenship due to the defence environment. For interstate candidates, relocation is required (the company will provide relocation allowance).
Key Responsibilities
* Assemble and integrate electronic subsystems from engineering drawings and build documentation
* Work hands on with PCBs, connectors, wiring looms, and cable termination
* Perform system bring up, testing, and fault finding at board and system level
* Support prototype builds, trials, demonstrations, and field testing activities
* Build or modify test jigs and support development and production testing
* Maintain build records, unit histories, and workshop organisation
* Provide hands on technical guidance to junior technicians or contractors
* Work closely with engineers to translate designs into practical, repeatable builds
Requirements
* Proven experience as an electronics technician in a hands on hardware environment
* Background in industries such as defence, aerospace, avionics, RF, communications, industrial electronics, robotics, or similar complex electronic products
* Strong experience with electronics assembly, integration, and system level testing
* Ability to fault find and troubleshoot electronic systems using lab equipment
* Experience working from formal engineering documentation and build packs
* Comfortable working across electronics and light mechanical integration
* Ability to work autonomously while contributing effectively within a multidisciplinary engineering team
* Australian citizenship
Desirable but Not Essential
* Avionics or aerospace system exposure
* RF, radar, communications, or sensor based product experience
* Experience acting as a senior or lead technician in a small team environment
* Background supporting prototype hardware through to low rate production
