Senior Financial AccountantState Government | 3 Month Contract | $75-$85 p/h + Super | East Melbourne | Hybrid
We are seeking an experienced Senior Financial Accountant to join a State Government organisation on a 3-month contract. Based in East Melbourne, this role offers full-time hours and hybrid working arrangements while supporting a busy finance team during a key reporting period.
This position will take a lead role in financial reporting, compliance oversight, and the preparation of financial statements, while also supporting the broader finance function through expert advice and strong stakeholder engagement.
Responsibilities
* Leading the preparation of financial statements and supporting the annual budget build process
* Providing oversight and maintenance of financial compliance, including Standing Directions
* Supporting the financial components of the Annual Report, including reporting and acquittals
* Managing month-end processes, including journals, balance sheet reconciliations, and suspense account reconciliations
* Preparing accounts receivable reporting and supporting broader financial administration
* Contributing to the development and improvement of financial policies, processes, and systems
* Providing expert financial advice and support to internal stakeholders
About You
* Demonstrated experience as a Senior Financial Accountant or similar role
* Strong experience in financial reporting, compliance, and month-end processes
* The ability to interpret and communicate complex financial concepts to a broad range of stakeholders
* Proven experience building effective relationships across teams and departments
* Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving capability
* A collaborative and proactive approach to working within a team environment
Qualifications & Experience
* CPA or CA qualification (or working towards) or equivalent relevant experience
* Tertiary qualification in finance or accounting
* Experience working within a large, complex organisation, ideally within government or the public sector
* Strong understanding of financial policies, procedures, and governance frameworks
