About the Role
Are you ready to make a meaningful impact in the lives of children, families, and individuals affected by family violence? Join us at The Orange Door as a Hub Practitioner. Based in Warrnambool, you’ll be part of a multidisciplinary team providing a single entry point for support with family violence, parenting challenges, or child wellbeing concerns.
As a Hub Practitioner, you’ll bring empathy, critical thinking, and sound judgement. You’ll conduct risk and needs assessments, develop safety plans using evidence-based tools, and work closely with victim-survivors, children, and men as fathers—ensuring all voices are heard and respected. You’ll provide secondary consultation and expert advice, help keep adults using violence accountable, and refer families to appropriate supports to ensure safety and wellbeing. This role emphasizes collaboration, cultural safety, and professional judgement, contributing to community safety and reform.

Skills and Knowledge required:
* A strong understanding of the drivers of family violence and child and family vulnerability, as well as the social services sector and its practices.
* Highly developed skills in risk assessment and management, applicable to family violence and child wellbeing.
* Knowledge of community, welfare, education, and health services, or the capacity to acquire it.
* Ability to engage and work with Adults Using Family Violence (AUFV) with complex issues contributing to their violence.
Qualifications:
Employees must meet the minimum qualification requirements mandated by the Australian government for Specialist Family Violence Practitioners, including:
* Bachelor of Social Work or equivalent (or current enrolment and working towards this)
* OR minimum 5 years relevant experience and willingness to undertake further study to qualify by June 2026
* OR related qualification with willingness to undertake further study to qualify by June 2026
* OR significant cultural knowledge, lived experience, or barriers to education, with willingness to meet qualification within 10 years
* OR exemption under the policy (e.g., prior to 2021 workforce members)

The Orange Door initiative provides a network of support and safety hubs across Victoria, offering a single entry point for family violence and child wellbeing issues. The safety of victim-survivors is the first priority, with a focus on perpetrators’ accountability. The hub aims to build capacity of vulnerable families for self-management through referrals and support.
