The Role
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, you will be a key senior member of the Executive Leadership Team. You will bring considerable commercial experience and be positioned as a leader able to support key functions across the business.
As an experienced Chief Financial Officer, you will provide leadership across a range of financial and commercial areas.
Your primary focus will be to drive value within the business and guide it to a successful sale event within an 18–24 month timeline.
Key responsibilities include:
* Sale readiness: Prepare the business to be sale-ready ahead of the sale event
* Financial Reporting: Oversee the preparation and submission of accurate and timely financial statements and reports, ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards, laws, and regulations
* Financial Planning and Analysis: Develop and execute financial plans and strategies, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial modelling (including pricing) to support growth and investment decisions
* Commercial Analysis: Analyse current and future customer data, pricing, contract terms, margins, competitors, and industry trends
* Business Planning: Develop a 3-year strategic plan based on value drivers and market opportunities
* Business Transformation: Identify and pursue transformation opportunities such as automation, outsourcing, and industry partnerships
* Cash Management: Manage cash flow, ensuring adequate liquidity and maximizing investment returns
* Risk Management: Identify, assess, and manage financial risks including credit, market, and operational risks
* Insurance: Lead assessment and arrangement of company-related and D&O insurance
* Corporate Governance: Ensure compliance with governance policies, risk management, and audit requirements
* Investor Relations: Represent the company to investors, analysts, and stakeholders, including leading preparation and delivery of quarterly and annual financial results
* Team Management: Build and lead a high-performing finance team, providing guidance, coaching, and development opportunities
* Business Leadership: Drive a high-performance culture across the entire business
* Advocacy: Support efforts to increase the company’s visibility within the industry
* Stakeholder Management: Maintain strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders
Your Profile
You will be a CA/CPA qualified accountant with hands-on experience successfully leading a business through a sale event.
This role requires more than observing from the sidelines; you will have been instrumental at every stage with a proven track record to demonstrate your impact.
You understand the nuances of working within a privately owned SME and can navigate the pressures and challenges of a growing, ambitious environment.
You are skilled in driving commercial outcomes, with a strong grasp of pricing, profitability, analysis, and financial modelling. You understand how value levers interconnect — how sales relate to debtors, working capital, business strategy, and banking relationships.
A natural business partner, you can build relationships throughout the organisation and externally with clients, suppliers, and banks.
Key requirements:
* Prior success in leading a business through a sale event
* Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
* 10+ years of broad finance experience
* Advanced financial modelling and Excel skills
* Proven ability to work with high-growth businesses
* Strong commercial acumen
* Influencing and negotiation skills
* Team leadership and management experience
