Family Support Specialist
The Family Support Specialist will work closely with carer families in their homes to provide practical and emotional support. They will assist carers to attend appointments and access community groups and activities.
About the Role
The Family Support Specialist role is responsible for providing high-quality support services to families in need. This includes working alongside parents and family carers to improve safety and connectedness with local community services.
Main Responsibilities
* To work alongside carer families in their homes to provide regular in-home, practical and emotional support.
* To assist carers to attend appointments and access community groups and activities.
* To provide support after school and in the evening to assist the family.
* To continually assess in consultation with case workers allocated to the family.
* To report to the service Case Manager.
Key Selection Criteria
* A knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture and values and an awareness of the current issues faced by Aboriginal children, young people and their families.
* An appropriate qualification and/or experience in the human services or related discipline.
* Demonstrated ability in working as part of a team.
* Knowledge of vulnerable children, young people and families, including an understanding of the impact of trauma, attachment and child development.
* Demonstrated commitment to working collaboratively and with the capacity to liaise with other agencies and the community.
* An understanding of the child protection and the out-of-home care service system.
