Role Description
We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer for a contract-based, hybrid role located in Canberra, with the flexibility to work remotely some of the time.
In this role, you will design, develop, and maintain back-end systems, contributing to robust software development processes.
Key responsibilities include implementing programming best practices, enhancing system performance, and working collaboratively with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality digital solutions.
Key Duties
Working closely with backend developers (Java) to integrate application programming interfaces (API's) and data pipelines.
Driving UI/UX improvements and ensuring high standards of usability and performance.
Mentoring junior developers and contributing to technical decisions and best practices.
Participating in code reviews, continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) implementation, and agile ceremonies.
Mandatory Skills and Experience
Experience with Git, Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) pipelines, testing frameworks, particularly Jest.
Strong understanding of responsive design, performance optimisation, and user experience (UX) principles.
Ability to understand business requirements and translate them into technical requirements.
Experience working directly with UI/UX designers on creating UI.
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
Experience with agile working and test-driven development, including use of Git and JIRA.
Desirable skills and experience
Experience working with Java servers and Spring Boot.
Experience working on large data projects and with technologies such as Elasticsearch/Solr, Kafka, NoSQL databases.
Experience integrating RESTful APIs or any of the following technologies/frameworks: GraphQL, NiFi, Postgres, Neo4j, or IIR.
Experience with Azure Cloud and Linux operating systems.
Ability to demonstrate the effective and positive use of information and communications technology, particularly in an intelligence community.
Flexibility of the proposal over the lifecycle of the procurement and environmental sustainability of the goods or services.

Security Requirements
Obtain the Organisational Suitability Assessment (OSA) prior to commencement.
Have an Australian Government security clearance (AGSVA) to the minimum of NV1.
Complete a Deed of Confidentiality or Non-Disclosure Agreement prior to commencement or comply with processes required to engage the Specified Personnel under section 48 of the Australian Crime Commission Act *****).
