We are exclusively partnering with a leading Australian-based investment management firm with approximately A$200bn in assets under management. The business invests across a broad range of asset classes, including equities, fixed income and alternatives, and provides investment solutions to both institutional and retail investors.
They have identified the need to appoint a Senior Legal Counsel in the Sydney office. Reporting directly to the General Counsel, the role will be involved in a range of strategic and transactional matters, including due diligence processes, new fund launches and acquisitions.
Key responsibilities:
* Collaborate with internal teams to provide strategic, practical legal guidance across business initiatives.
* Advise on regulatory matters, including AFSL obligations, conflicts of interest, related-party transactions, and financial assistance.
* Support fund launches, ETFs, offshore structures, disclosure documents, and due diligence processes.
* Provide legal support and guidance to the distribution team on agreements with external partners, research providers, and commercial counterparties.
* Review and negotiate investment, trading, and contractual arrangements, including ISDAs, prime brokerage, and marketing materials.
* Build and maintain strong relationships with senior leadership to align legal support with business goals.
* Assist with company secretarial and governance responsibilities as required.
The role is well-suited to a lawyer with experience in funds management or investment-related legal work, whether looking to make a first move from a top-tier law firm or already working within an investment management environment.
Ideal background:
* Qualified lawyer with up to 10 years' PQE, ideally in funds management or top-tier law firms.
* Skilled at navigating complex legal and regulatory issues with practical solutions.
* Strong interest or experience in investment management and financial markets.
* Excellent communicator and collaborator, able to influence across teams.
* Track record of delivering results in fast-paced, dynamic environments.
