About the role
Are you an Mechanical Engineer looking to join a leading company in the electrical manufacturing industry? Based in our Edinburgh modern manufacturing facility,Mayfield is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to perform complex electrical design assignments on transportable Switchrooms, entailing the review and incorporation of technical specifications and relevant standards. Support the Lead Switchroom Designer in delivery of projects for clients in the following industries:
* Renewable Energy
* Infrastructure

What you'll be doing
* Perform Solidworks design and drafting on electrical switchrooms, skids and other products associated with switchrooms when required.
* Read and understand projects specifications and standards to define project structural engineering delivery framework.
* Learn and understand Mayfield's design and construction methods to deliver designs that conform to Mayfield's standard practices.
* Assist in the development and continuous improvement of Mayfield designs. Mayfield has a goal of achieving a truly "Modular" switchroom design.
* Work with the Structural Engineering Lead to review and refine work practices to bring improved efficiencies in design, construction methods and materials usage.
* Work to automate repetitive design tasks by using innovative solutions and developing customised design tools in Solidworks programs and spreadsheets.
* Participate enthusiastically in implementing a strong Solidworks capability within the team.
* Liaise proactively with clients to understand their requirements and adapt design to suit.
* Basic checking of design and drafting work done by others to ensure compliance and correct interpretation of design intent.
* Work with and assist others in the E&D team in a collaborative and professional manner as required.
* Define and recommend specifications and performance of functional requirements for new projects.
* Undertake or assist in the preparation of feasibility studies, surveys and reports, design layouts, specifications, bill of quantities, materials list, and cost estimates.
* Liaise with Engineering team for designs based on development work, or construction and production engineers associated with the construction or manufacturing of structures or products.
* Carry out factory inspections and liaise with suppliers, clients or engineers concerning the design, installation, construction, and commissioning of assigned work.
* Review complaints and suggestions relating to assigned products.
* Attend to the technical aspects of requests for quotations and technical literature.
* Performs HVAC calculations required in projects and supports related client's technical comments/issues resolution.

What we're looking for
* Degree qualifications in Mechanical or Civil Engineering discipline.
* Minimum 2 years post-graduate experience in relevant industry sectors.
* Strong Solidworks and 3D CAD understanding.
* Several years as Electrical Switchroom Designer. Alternatively, a minimum of 3 years' experience as a mechanical designer/drafter in a similar manufacturing business is desirable.
