ABOUT US:
Yorgum was established in 1991 by a group of Aboriginal women, some of whom worked in women's refuges, who were concerned about the lack of appropriate counselling support for Aboriginal people experiencing spiritual, emotional and psychological pain. They founded a service with a 'healing' approach rather than an ongoing, crisis-driven 'patch-up' approach.
Yorgum offers all Aboriginal people and their families autonomous, community based healing services that are culturally secure, trauma-informed and work within an Aboriginal Family Worldview.
THE ROLE:
Provides culturally safe, trauma-informed support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Survivors of institutional abuse who are seeking to engage with the Western Australian Redress Scheme (Scheme).
SELECTION CRITERIA:
To be considered for the role, you will be able to demonstrate the following experience and abilities:
1.Tertiary qualification in /Social Work or Diploma in Counselling or relevant Human Service work experience.
2.Strong understanding of the impacts of colonisation and intergenerational trauma for Aboriginal peoples in WA.
3.Demonstrated ability to work in a culturally safe, respectful way with Aboriginal clients, families and community.
4.Experience providing one-on-one support, case management, advocacy, counselling or similar community-based work.
5.Sound organisational skills, including record keeping, confidential file management, and timely reporting.
6.Demonstrated ability to engage and build strong working relationships with clients and relevant stakeholders.
7.Willingness and ability to travel to towns and communities across WA (excluding Kimberleys).
8.Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team member.
9.Strong communication skills.
10.Demonstrated experience with Microsoft applications and database applications.
