Primary objective
Support the Project Manager, Directors and Executive Director with the development and delivery of vocational education and
training projects through strategic coordination, advice, and analysis, contributing to departmental and Government objectives.
Context statement
The Skills NT division is responsible for building a skilled and capable Northern Territory workforce by providing leadership,
resources, and strategic oversight of vocational education and training (VET). As the Northern Territory’s state training authority,
Skills NT provides stewardship of the Territory’s VET system, ensuring it meets local needs.
Through strong partnerships with schools, industry, community organisations, and registered training organisations, Skills NT
supports access to high-quality training that leads to meaningful employment outcomes and responds to current and future
workforce demand across the Territory.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Coordinate, research, and prepare high level briefs, submissions, reports, and correspondence to enable to Minister,
Chief Executive and Deputy Chief Executive to carry out their functions effectively.
2. Liaise effectively and professionally with internal staff at all levels within the department as well as external stakeholders,
ensuring appropriate information access, management, and use.
3. Coordinate information collation, analysis and reporting to ensure, accurate and reliable program and performance activity
information.
4. Develop and maintain effective partnerships, consult, liaise and negotiate strategically commissioned and evidence-based
projects and policy positions with stakeholders.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated experience in project management planning, change management, delivery, adaptability, evaluation, and
monitoring of complex initiatives.
2. High interpersonal skills to interact effectively with persons at all levels of government, with high level negotiation and advisory
skills.
3. Demonstrated high level written communication and understanding of government and departmental processes including
preparing high level reports, discussion papers and correspondence including Ministerial and executive briefings or ability to
acquire quickly.
4. Developed organisational skills and the ability to manage own performance, take responsibility for achieving expected
outcomes, and flexibility to adapt to changing issues, priorities, and deadlines,
5. Knowledge and understanding of government and departmental processes including preparing high level reports, discussion
papers and correspondence including Ministerial and executive briefings or ability to acquire quickly.
6. Demonstrated ability to confidently build and maintain effective networks, undertake consultation, and liaise with a range of
internal and external stakeholders from diverse cultures and backgrounds.
Desirable
1. Tertiary qualification in Project Management and/or Government Contract Management and/or relevant project management
systems.
