Customs | Special Investigations | Illicit Tobacco Taskforce
Special Investigations Branch (SIB), is a specialist investigation and enforcement capability focussing on the detection, disruption and dismantling of actors and organisations that present operational and strategic border threats. Working both unilaterally and collaboratively with partner agencies (domestically and offshore), SIB contributes to whole of government law enforcement and national security missions, as well as to the protection of the Australian community and Australia's reputation through enforcement of customs and migration laws relating to the border. The breadth of programs SIB activities relates to include counter terrorism, serious organised crime, weapons of mass destruction, illicit tobacco, serious and systemic revenue evasion.
The Illicit Tobacco Taskforce (ITTF) is an enforcement capability focusing on the importation of illicit tobacco by serious and organised criminal groups. The mission of the ITTF is to target, disrupt and dismantle the most serious and organised crime elements of the illicit tobacco trade, including disrupting their global supply chains.

Our ideal candidate
APS6 Border Force Supervisors are often required to respond to operational matters outside of normal duty hours. This can be at short notice and is often unscheduled. Applicants should consider their suitability to undertake this role when applying. They may be expected to participate, after acquiring a reasonable level of experience, in an on-call roster to provide after-hours response to line areas.
APS6 Border Force Supervisors may be required to travel regionally, interstate or internationally to undertake investigations, attend courses or meetings with limited notice. There is an expectation that successful applicants will undertake the Border Force Investigations Course (continuous 6 weeks) and have completed Certificate IV in Government Investigation or other relevant qualifications from a recognised law enforcement or intelligence agency. Applicants should consider their suitability to undertake travel when applying.
Duties and responsibilities
The Supervisor role is responsible for the following:
1. Conduct investigations of suspected offences, collecting and analysing information to prepare briefs of evidence when appropriate and instructing the Australian Government Solicitor or liaising with the office of the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions (CDPP) as appropriate during the investigation and throughout the prosecution process. Cases allocated to this position for investigation will range in complexity and may also include supervising subordinate officers and managing cases allocated to them
2. Work closely with Home Affairs portfolio agencies and other Commonwealth and/or State law enforcement bodies in a multi-agency operational environment
3. Gather evidence, intelligence as required and be capable of providing evidence in court on matters arising out of operations in criminal and civil jurisdictions
4. Design, develop, implement and/or coordinate operational responses to border security risks across the border continuum - offshore, onshore and at the border
5. Liaise with and support investigations and operations conducted by domestic and international partners by ensuring the optimal utilisation of ABF capabilities and powers.

Eligibility
To be eligible for the position you must be an Australian Citizen.
The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting Level 1 (AGSVA) security clearance and an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC).
