About the Role The Women’s Hospital is Australia’s leading independent specialist hospital for women and newborns, providing specialised maternity, newborn and women's health services. It has strong affiliations with the University of Melbourne and is a major teaching hospital serving around 80,000 patients annually, delivering more than 7,000 babies and performing approximately 400 major gynaecological oncology operations per year.
Responsibilities
Provide patient care in consultation with supervising consultants.
Adhere to published Junior Medical Staff rosters and RWH Clinical Practice Guidelines.
Utilise evidence-based practice to improve quality and safety.
Communicate effectively within the multidisciplinary team.
Supervise junior medical staff and ensure accountability for care delivered.
Ensure timely record-keeping, discharge preparation, and communication with referring practitioners and ongoing care providers.
Training Program The Fellow will be a RANZCOG CGO trainee and will join a multidisciplinary service that includes pathologists, radiologists, oncologists, specialist nurses, and allied health professionals with a special interest in gynaecological cancer care. The unit is linked to the Peter McCallum Cancer Centre, the University of Melbourne and WEHI. The Fellow will perform all gynaecological oncology surgical procedures, including exposure to less common procedures such as exenteration, peritonectomy and HIPEC through the pelvic cancer team at PMCC. The unit has a strong focus on research and clinical trials.
Training includes all gynaecological oncology surgical procedures and multidisciplinary care of women with gynaecological cancer. There are five multidisciplinary meetings per fortnight and two research meetings per four‑week cycle.
The Fellow will also receive exposure to cervical cancer prevention training, dysplasia treatments and gestational trophoblastic disease services.
Qualifications Fellows are expected to attend teaching and training sessions as rostered, fulfil training requirements, engage in research projects, conduct teaching, audit sessions, supervise and teach junior registrars and medical students, engage in audit and practice improvement activities, present at multidisciplinary meetings, serve on committees, and develop supervision and leadership skills.
Essential Criteria
Primary medical degree MBBS or equivalent.
Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
RANZCOG CGO trainee.
