The Opportunity Working with a large, complex organisation is seeking a Cyber & Technology Risk Consultant to join its technology function on a short term 3 month contract. This role does have the potential to extend or even go permanent. Day rate: $1200 Location: Melbourne Initial duration: 3 months This role sits within a key business unit while also working closely with the centralised cyber and risk team — acting as the conduit between operational technology teams and group governance functions.We are looking for someone practical and hands-on, who understands how to implement controls, not just design them. About the Role You will support the uplift of cyber and technology risk practices across operational systems and applications within the business unit. The role requires strong business engagement capability, the ability to understand operational context, and the confidence to work across senior stakeholders. Key focus areas include: Implementing and embedding security controls within operational environments Supporting remediation of audit findings and risk treatment plans Conducting cyber and technology risk assessments Supporting vendor and third-party risk management activities Acting as the bridge between business unit IT leaders and central cyber governance Providing practical security advisory across projects, new systems and existing platforms Contributing security input into design and architecture discussions Supporting reporting to senior leadership and governance forums Key Responsibilities Conduct and document technology and cyber risk assessments Evaluate and test effectiveness of security controls (access, logging, encryption, etc.) Assist with risk register management and remediation tracking Support vendor security assessments (SOC 2, ISO 27001, questionnaires) Liaise with vendors to drive closure of findings Provide security input into new bids and projects where required Help improve cyber risk visibility at senior leadership level Contribute to audit preparation and risk committee submissions About You We are seeking someone with: Minimum 5 years' experience in cyber security and technology risk Strong understanding of governance, risk and control frameworks Practical experience implementing and uplifting security controls Hands-on GRC capability (not purely strategic advisory) Experience working within complex operational environments Ability to translate technical risk into business language Strong stakeholder engagement skills Framework familiarity with NIST, ISO 27001, ASD Essential Eight or similar is desirable. Experience across infrastructure, transport, utilities, or other operationally complex industries will be highly regarded.
