Manual machinist

Overview

VEEM's state-of-the-art machine shop uses high end equipment to provide market leading products for our customers in the defence and marine sectors. We are looking for an experienced Manual Machinist who enjoys interesting and high precision work and enjoys being part of a great team.

Responsibilities

• Performing a wide variety of machining operations utilising heavy conventional manual lathes.
• Set up and machining of large castings made of various hardened metal alloys.
• Reading and interpreting detailed engineering drawings and manufacturing components to work instructions.
• Working with management to improve quality and machining run times to maximise VEEM's competitive edge.
• Integrating smoothly into a productive and successful team.
• Meeting the ever-changing needs of the production schedule in order to satisfy customer requirements.
• Ensuring all work is completed to a high workmanship standard.
• Maintaining a safe, happy and reliable work environment.

Qualifications and Skills

• Relevant machinist qualifications at a trade level or higher.
• A strong understanding of speeds, feeds, tooling and inserts to achieve the most efficient metal removal methods.
• Above average competency on conventional (manual) lathes and milling machines.
• A high level of personal honesty and integrity.
• Demonstrated understanding of quality assurance principles and international standards.
