Offer description

Overview

Full Time, fixed term for 12 months (with the possibility of extension).

Contribute to cutting-edge interdisciplinary research in biomedical engineering and regenerative medicine.

Base Salary $109,263 - $121,054 + 17% superannuation.

About the opportunity

At the University of Sydney, we foster a dynamic research environment where innovation thrives. The School of Biomedical Engineering invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to join an interdisciplinary program in functional biomaterials and tissue engineering. The successful candidate will undertake research at the interface of biomaterials engineering, regenerative medicine, advanced 3D printing and mechanobiology, under the supervision of Professor Hala Zreiqat.

This role offers substantial intellectual freedom and an opportunity to lead research in biomimetic and translational tissue engineering. The postdoctoral researcher will contribute to the development of biomimetic gradient scaffold technologies, including electrochemical molecular-lock strategies for constructing multi-scale gradient interfaces, soft tissue regeneration using established in vivo models for muscle and tendon repair, and the creation of integrated bone-tendon-muscle regeneration systems and advanced regenerative microenvironments. The role also offers opportunities for student supervision, industry engagement, grant development and the initiation of new research directions.

Key responsibilities

* Conduct high-quality research, independently and collaboratively, to advance bone-tendon-muscle interface regeneration
* Design and fabricate gradient scaffold technologies and models relevant to aged or diseased tissues
* Characterise biomaterials using advanced imaging, biochemical assays and molecular biology techniques
* Publish research outcomes in leading international journals
* Present research findings at national and international conferences
* Supervise and mentor undergraduate and postgraduate students
* Engage proactively with industry and clinical partners to support translational research
* Comply with and promote the University\'s health, safety and ethical standards

About you

The University of Sydney values courage and creativity, openness and engagement, inclusion and diversity, and respect and integrity. We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate in biomimetic gradient scaffold technologies who has:

* A PhD in biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, materials science, bioengineering or a closely related discipline
* Demonstrated expertise in biomaterials synthesis and tissue engineering, particularly in biomimetic gradient scaffold technologies
* Experience in 3D (bio)printing techniques; familiarity with LCD-based printing in mechanical simulation is highly desirable
* A strong record of independent research, evidenced by high-quality publications
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in interdisciplinary teams
* Experience in mentoring or supervising students
* A commitment to fostering an inclusive, collaborative and respectful workplace
* A sound understanding of, and commitment to, University policies and procedures relating to health and safety
