About the Role
The Industry Researcher undertakes qualitative research related to the identifying the current and future vocational skills needs of the industries that ISA supports as the Jobs and Skills Council for the Transport and Logistics sector. Using research and analysis skills and techniques, excellent networking skills and high-level writing skills, this role supports the development of high quality, evidence-based reports, papers, and submissions for a range of audiences in an appropriate style.
Reporting to the Business Intelligence Lead, the Industry Researcher works as part of a dynamic team of professionals, committed to supporting skills development initiatives for the Australian workforce.
What you’ll be doing
* Designing and conducting qualitative research including stakeholder interviews, focus groups, and case studies to gather insights
* Analysing qualitative data using thematic coding and synthesis
* Undertaking industry intelligence gathering and desktop research activities
* Undertaking high-quality investigation, analysis and reporting
* Developing reports, papers and submissions required to inform ISA business needs
* Supporting the team in the development of intelligence collection and monitoring systems
* Performing regular environmental scans, and provide reports which maintain corporate knowledge of skills related issues in the industries ISA supports
* Maintaining a research library of relevant information to support the provision of high-quality information to our allocated committees, and the business as required
* Proactively identifying areas where research can support ISA outcomes
* Working closely with project teams to understand and complete the research tasks required
* Assisting the development of interview guides and focus group protocols aligned with research objectives
Who you are:
Essential attributes
* Highly experienced developing and undertaking research projects, utilising qualitative research methods
* Demonstrated experience in qualitative research methods including conducting interviews and focus groups and analysing qualitative data.
* Ability to design and implement qualitative research frameworks and tools.
* High level writing skills, translating research into reports, literature reviews and other publications for a range of audiences
* Demonstrated experience in the research and analysis of industry skills requirements
* Experience using qualitative data analysis software (eg NVivo)
* Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office, SharePoint, and collating research sources (use of Mendeley or equivalent)
* Highly developed interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
* Consultation skills demonstrated in dealing with internal and external stakeholders to achieve team and organisational goals
* Ability to present complex information in a meaningful way both visually and through written communications and reports, considering the needs of the audience
* Flexible and responsive with initiative, attitude and ability to adapt to changing project requirements
* Strong critical thinking skills and judgement as well as the ability to provide evidence-based input to all levels of the business
* Team player with proven ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively.
Desirable attributes
* An understanding of Vocational Education and Training (VET)
* Applied project development, planning and reporting experience
* Ability to research information and turn it into ‘Briefs’ promptly, often at short notice
* Ability and willingness to learn and understand data
* Ability to proofread and interpret qualitative data
* Ability to evaluate projects
