We're seeking an experienced procurement professional to lead purchasing strategy, supplier performance, and commercial outcomes for Alpine MDF — one of regional Victoria's largest and most advanced manufacturing operations.
About Us
Alpine MDF Industries is a leading wood processing facility based in Wangaratta, North East Victoria. We manufacture and distribute MDF products both nationally and internationally, providing stable employment for over 140 local workers.
Our primary focus is the production of Medium Density Fibreboard (MDF), widely used in the construction and related industries. In addition to our core manufacturing operations, we operate an on-site re-manufacturing facility, enhancing raw MDF into high-quality building products. These include pre-painted skirting boards, architraves, door and window components, and decorative wall lining panels.
About the role
Reporting to the Finance Manager, this role has primary accountability for strategic procurement and purchasing operations. You'll partner with stakeholders across Production, Engineering, and Sales to ensure efficient, compliant, and value-for-money procurement outcomes. This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll modernise processes, strengthen governance, and deliver measurable cost and efficiency improvements across the business.
Key responsibilities
* Develop and implement company-wide procurement strategies, policies, and procedures.
* Lead supplier evaluations, contract negotiations, and performance management.
* Identify and implement cost-saving initiatives and continuous improvement opportunities.
* Collaborate with internal teams to align procurement with production schedules and business priorities.
* Manage purchasing governance, contract renewals, and supplier risk assessments.
* Provide mentoring and direction to build capability and accountability.
What you'll bring
* Proven experience in a procurement or purchasing leadership role, ideally in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
* Strong commercial and negotiation skills with a record of improving supplier performance and driving savings.
* Proficiency in ERP or procurement systems (e.g., SAP, Pronto, or similar) and strong Excel reporting ability.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage internal stakeholders and suppliers.
* High attention to detail, documentation, and compliance.
* Tertiary qualification in Business, Supply Chain Management, or a related field (preferred).
* A proactive, solutions-focused mindset and commitment to continuous improvement.
