Group 6 Metals Limited is seeking a motivated and safety‑focused Laboratory Metallurgical Technician to join our team at the Dolphin Tungsten Mine on King Island, Tasmania. This permanent position offers the chance to be part of an expanding mining operation in a unique and beautiful part of Australia.
About the Role
Reporting to the Processing Superintendent and working closely with the Metallurgical Laboratory Team Leader, you will support ore processing activities through accurate sample preparation, laboratory testing, equipment operation and data recording. This hands‑on role is ideal for someone with strong attention to detail, a commitment to safe work practices, and an interest in laboratory or mineral processing environments.
Laboratory Tasks & Responsibilities (including but not limited to) :
* Obtaining, preparing and processing ore samples for testing.
* Preparing samples for chemical analysis and other professional testing.
* Preparing samples for testing using complex scientific instruments such as XRF.
* Safely operating and maintaining laboratory and scientific equipment.
* Performing pre‑start checks, calibration and inspection of laboratory equipment.
* Maintaining clean and orderly laboratory areas.
* Recording, storing and dispatching samples as required.
* Supporting the processing plant with operational tasks when instructed.
* Following isolation procedures and working under direction from supervisors.
* Following all safety working procedures and systems to protect yourself and others.
What We're Looking For
Essential Skills & Experience
* Basic understanding and use of scientific equipment.
* Experience in safe handling of hazardous chemicals.
* Ability to work with limited supervision.
* Safety‑focused approach to all tasks.
* Current Driver's License.
* Ability to problem‑solve quickly and effectively.
Desirable Skills & Experience
* Experience in mineral processing or laboratory environments.
* Familiarity with XRF or similar scientific testing instruments
* Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
