About the Role
The Infection Prevention and Control Nurse at Grampians Health Ballarat is a key member of the Infection Prevention and Control Unit, working to support strategic priorities and ensure compliance with NSQHS Standards.
This role involves promoting infection prevention at all levels, engaging with stakeholders, assisting with surveillance data collection, and supporting infection control audits.
The nurse will monitor infectious patients, assist with outbreaks, and support staff in safe infection control practices.
Additionally, the role includes involvement in health care settings, contributing to infection control projects, policy reviews, and research, as well as implementing improvement initiatives across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Assist with surveillance data collection, including monitoring surgical site surveillance and reporting to VICNISS.
Apply infection prevention standards according to the Australian Guidelines and consult with the infection control team on complex cases.
Participate in educational activities, maintain clinical proficiency, and promote staff engagement in hand hygiene and infection control practices.
Support outbreak investigations, assist with immunisation programs, and participate in infection control promotion activities.
Ensure compliance with Grampians Health policies and assist with product evaluations as necessary.
Participate in relevant committees and provide infection control guidance to clinical and non-clinical staff.
Skills, Qualifications & Experience
Registered Nurse with AHPRA, Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.
Demonstrated knowledge of accreditation standards and quality improvement practices.
Current working with children check and drivers' licence with the ability to travel for work.
Computer literate with strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, with a commitment to evidence-based practice.
Post-graduate qualifications in Infection Control, Nurse Immuniser, or experience in infection prevention services.
