The role

Experienced Perinatal Psychologist / Accredited Mental Health Social Worker / Mental Health Occupational Therapist to work at Gidget House Hobart.

We offer immediate or flexible start dates, client sourcing, administrative support and service promotion.

Position

We're looking for Clinical Psychologists, Registered Psychologists, accredited Mental Health Social Workers or Mental Health Occupational Therapists to deliver face‐to‐face psychological support at our newly established Gidget House site in Hobart, located in the Peacock Centre. Our specialist perinatal clinicians provide a wide range of individual, couple and parent‐infant therapies to women and their partners. In addition to pre‐conception counselling, we offer services to those experiencing, or at risk of developing, perinatal depressive, anxiety and trauma or stressor‐related disorders. Support is also provided to women and their partners who have experienced a pregnancy or childbirth‐related loss, e.g. stillbirth, miscarriage or termination.

Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive psychological assessment and evidence‐based therapy to expectant and new parents.
  • Deliver services to individuals, couples and parent‐infant dyads in a face‐to‐face setting.
  • Utilise a recovery‐oriented, person/family‐centred approach to care.
  • Manage independent caseload and maintain accurate clinical records.
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team and share relevant information to support clients.
Qualifications
  • Demonstrated proficiency in comprehensive psychological assessment and evidence‐based therapy relevant to expectant and new parents with perinatal mental health issues.
  • AHPRA registration with endorsements in psychology or accreditation as a mental health social worker.
  • At least 3 years post‐registration experience, with specific experience working with perinatal clients or in a complementary field.
  • Experience managing an independent caseload of perinatal clients (for social workers).
  • Ability to work within a recovery‐oriented model, utilising a person/family centred approach.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and problem‐solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently under approved professional supervision.
  • Effective caseload management skills.

It was established to ensure that the tragic loss of Gidget, a young mother who suffered from postnatal depression, does not happen to others. The Foundation provides timely, appropriate and supportive care to those in need.

Expressions of interest are now being accepted. If you meet the qualifications above but do not yet have perinatal experience, we also offer a free Perinatal & Infant Mental Health Training program for clinicians with general mental health experience.
