Role Purpose
To maintain and repair tractors, farm machinery, and packing‐shed equipment, ensuring reliability and operational efficiency. You will be critical in fault‐finding, fabricating parts, and supporting production continuity through agile and responsive maintenance. This is a new role with the Tasmanian operations, so your experience and knowledge will be pivotal in the development and set up of the sites and workshops. Indoor and outdoor work environment.
Key Duties & Responsibilities Preventive & Scheduled Maintenance
* Perform routine servicing, inspections, lubrication, and safety checks on tractors, farm implements, and packing‐shed machinery.
* Maintain clear maintenance logs, documentation, and inventory control.
Reactive Maintenance & Fault‐Finding
* Attend to breakdowns in the workshop or the field.
* Diagnose and restore machinery swiftly to minimise downtime.
Machining, Fabrication & Welding
* Manufacture or repair parts using lathes, mills, and bench tools.
* Conduct welding (MIG, MMA/ARC, oxy‐acetylene) and fabrication as required.
Hydraulics, Pneumatics & Basic Electrics
* Maintain and repair hydraulic/pneumatic systems and pumps/valves.
* Perform basic electrical repairs or minor component replacements.
* Identify ways to enhance equipment reliability, safety, and productivity.
* Maintain accurate inventory and suggest reordering needs.
Team Support & Agility
* Offer mechanical support during planting, harvest, and setup operations.
* Uphold a tidy, organised workshop and equipment yard.
Hours, Remuneration & Conditions Operating Schedule:
Standard work week with flexibility around peak periods and breakdowns (harvest season peak is March to April), reflecting typical farm‐mechanic expectations.
Penalties & Loading:
Salary reflects an above‐award pay with additional penalties for weekends, after‐hours, harvest periods, breakdown call‐outs or extended hours.
On‐Call & Weekend Work:
Role involves rostered weekend duties and potential on‐call availability during harvest.
Work indoors in packing sheds and outdoors on equipment, in all weather conditions.
Essential Skills & Qualifications
* Trade qualification in Mechanical Fitting, Machining, Diesel/Agricultural Mechanics, Millwright or equivalent experience.
* Experience with agricultural equipment—tractors, harvesters, sprayers etc.—in field or workshop.
* Proficient in machining and welding (MIG, ARC, oxy‐acetylene).
* Knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, electrics, and diagnostic methods.
* Ability to read technical manuals, drawings and diagnostic tools.
* Strong \"can‐do\" attitude, ability to work weekends, peak season hours and respond to equipment failure.
* Organised with attention to detail, excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Valid driver's licence
* Forklift, MR or EWP licences advantageous.
