An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Clinical Fellow in Pancreatico-Biliary Surgery (ST3+) at the Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The Pancreatic Surgery Unit is one of the busiest in the UK performing 150-200 pancreatic resections annually. The post is to start from October 2026.

The contract is initially offered on a 12-month basis, but shorter or longer time periods will be considered. There is an expectation that the candidate will contribute to the senior registrar general surgery on call rota as part of this post, though this is negotiable.

This post will be attractive to post-CCT individuals who require additional specialist training prior to applying for a consultant position.

Each doctor is expected to assist in the care of all patients in the Unit when required to do so. Duties include business, post-take and teaching ward rounds, OP clinics, Operating Theatre sessions, administrative (dictation of summaries, letters, coding etc.) and presentations (M & M, MDT meetings etc.)

The unit performs in the order of 150-200 major pancreatic resections annually, including pancreato‐duodenectomy, left pancreatectomy (open and laparoscopic) and chronic pancreatitis surgery. Liverpool provides complex pancreatitis care for the Merseyside, Cheshire, North Wales and the Isle of Man. This includes a weekly benign MDT, and emergency surgery including minimally invasive, open and endoscopic necrosectomies.

A successful candidate would expect to take part in excess of 60 major pancreatic resections in a 12‐month period.

The unit is a European ENETS centre of excellence for neuroendocrine tumours.
