Overview
This apprenticeship will provide you with a comprehensive practical and theoretical base to help you develop mechanical skills, an understanding of technical procedures, concepts and knowledge of safe working practices in the LNG industry.
Mechanical fitters carry out repairs and maintenance to a wide range of mechanical equipment such as pumps, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, process compressors, gas turbines and other mechanical components.
Tasks
* Carrying out basic engineering calculations
* Developing skills using a wide range of hand and power operated tools
* Using electric welding and fuel gas cutting equipment
* Interpreting technical workshop drawings
* Installing, commissioning, testing and repairing a variety of machinery to manufacturer's specifications
* Installing and maintaining mechanical power transmission equipment
* Servicing, repairing and carrying out diagnostic work on hydraulic and pneumatic equipment
* Repairing and maintaining medium size compression ignition (diesel engines)
* Testing and maintaining pumps and pumping systems
Duration and Training
This apprenticeship has a nominal term of four years. Your induction training will take place at the Programmed office in Gladstone. This training will run for approximately four to six weeks, after which apprentices will commence on the job training with the host employer. Additional TAFE training blocks and other training courses will also be scheduled throughout this apprenticeship.
Qualifications
On successful completion of your apprenticeship with Programmed you will gain a
* Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Fitter (Turner)
Prerequisites
* Secondary education to year 12, with relevant work experience or equivalent, or
* Secondary education to year 11, with successful completion of (or completing) a pre-apprenticeship in the relevant field or equivalent.
* The ability to pass a pre-employment medical and attend regular drug and alcohol screens
* The ability to get to the LNG facility ferry terminal to travel to Curtis Island.
