Working in this operational area of the AFP and supporting them from a finance perspective provides a unique opportunity and exposure to a range of interesting work the AFP are doing to combat serious crime.
The Operational Finance Officer role provides support to AFP operations through proactively delivering financial services and administrative support to ensure compliance and reporting in accordance with the agency's financial governance framework.
You will be required to contribute to the achievement of outcomes and reporting in accordance with the regulatory framework, the AFP Code of Conduct and the AFP Governance Instruments to ensure the 'proper use' of monies and assets in accordance with the Public Governance, Performance & Accountability Act. It is expected that the successful applicant will deliver on the core responsibilities and meet any requirements of the position as outlined in the role description and responsibilities.
What will you do?
Working within this role you will be responsible for facilitating the provision of finance to assist agency activities, through a variety of administrative and financial functions. You will support the Command to manage budgets and finances through timely and accurate advice and analysis.
**Band 4 Finance Officer**:
The Band 4 Finance Officer role supports the Command on a range of financial functions. Core duties include management of monies including bank accounts, accurately recording and maintaining financial information and responding to client queries.
**Band 5 Finance Officer**:
The Band 5 Finance Officer role supports the Command to manage budgets and finances through timely and accurate advice and analysis. Core duties include management of monies including bank accounts, accurately recording and maintaining financial information, asset management, assisting Team Leader with functions including reporting, mentoring and development of junior team members, project and research work to support business area outcomes and prioritising work to meet changing requirements.
Essential Requirements
A security clearance of Negative Vetting 2 or ability to obtain one
Experience in banking, financial or accounts receivable/payable
Demonstrated ability to work independently in a high volume setting with competing priorities
Demonstrated ability to work accurately and methodically
Effective written and verbal communication skills, including attention to detail
Ability to work effectively and cooperatively in a team environment
Takes responsibility for complex projects and delivers intended results (Band 5)
Takes responsibility for developing the capabilities of the team (Band 5)
Commits to action and takes personal responsibility for their commitment to the team objectives (Band 5)
Successful completion of psychological clearance gateway
Desirable Requirements
The following skills and/or experience would be highly regarded:
Experience in a financial environment in public or private sectors, including small businesses
Experience in using Microsoft office platforms, accounting software and databases
Formal Finance qualifications or working towards
