**The Role**
The Media team is part of the Department's Communication Branch. The Branch is a agile space focused on delivering integrated and impactful communication through end-to-end services which supports the broader department. Ours is a fast-paced environment, with a team of experienced specialists who are accomplished in a range of communication disciplines, including media management.
The Media team manages the development of all media products and responds to all media enquiries on behalf of the department. This involves working collaboratively with a range of stakeholders, portfolio ministerial media advisers, senior departmental officers and their policy and program teams, as well as journalists.
As a member of the team, you will be passionate about crafting effective media product, drafting and editing media-ready copy, including ministerial media releases, speeches and other content in what is a busy, constantly evolving policy and media environment.
**Duties and Responsibilities**
As a media professional, you will need to synthesize a great deal of information for your audience, often under tight timeframes, to produce impactful and easy-to-understand material.
Responsibilities of the APS6 Media Officer role may include:
- managing and responding to media enquiries directed to the department.
- drafting media-ready content including media releases, speeches, and talking points.
- assisting to maintain a rolling program of proactive ministerial media opportunities.
- tracking the workflow through the Media team, including preparing reports on work outcomes and uploading content online.
- assisting in the day-to-day management of the department's media monitoring contract.
**Qualifications and Education**
It is desirable that applicants have completed, or are currently engaged in, a media cadetship, degree or diploma in journalism, public relations, strategic communication (or similar qualification), or have relevant media industry experience.
Applicants who have an active interest in the news and public affairs, and who have a record in delivering quality media and communication outcomes will be well suited to this role.
