Key Details
* Full time, fixed term position for 12 months with possibility of extension, located on the Camperdown Campus.
* Opportunity to lead cutting‐edge experimental work in superconducting qubits.
* Base Salary Academic Level A, $109,263 – $121,054 + 17% superannuation.
About the role
The University of Sydney's School of Physics invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Physics. The position is funded by an ARC Discovery Project on mitigating the effects of ionising radiation in superconducting quantum computers, in collaboration with Dr Xanthe Croot's Superconducting Quantum Circuits Laboratory and Prof Andrew Doherty's quantum theory group at the University of Sydney. The successful candidate will lead the experimental effort, including superconducting qubit measurements, development of a cryogenic cosmic‐ray detector, dilution refrigerator operation, and nanofabrication of radiation‐resilient qubit designs, with access to Rigetti Computing's quantum processor through the project's industry partner.
Responsibilities
* Lead and conduct experimental work on superconducting qubits and quantum sensors.
* Design and operate cryogenic instrumentation and dilution refrigerator systems.
* Fabricate radiation‐resilient qubit devices and develop nanofabrication processes.
* Develop a cryogenic cosmic‐ray detector to study ionising radiation effects.
* Deliver scientific results through publications, presentations, and reports.
* Mentor and supervise graduate students and other research staff.
Qualifications and Skills
* PhD (or near completion) in experimental physics or a related field.
* Experience in superconducting qubit measurements or relevant quantum sensors, cryogenic instrumentation, nanofabrication or particle/radiation detection.
* Strong research, planning and organisational skills, with the ability to deliver high‐quality outcomes.
* Excellent communication skills to effectively liaise with diverse audiences, including delivering presentations and engaging with academic, industry and professional stakeholders.
* The ability to mentor and supervise others.
* A genuine team‐player attitude: easy to work with, supportive of colleagues and contributing positively to lab culture.
Pre‐employment checks
