Mining.com.au – Australia’s Leading Mining News Platform
Mining.com.au is Australia’s leading independent mining news service, reaching hundreds of thousands of mining professionals, executives, fund managers and retail investors globally each month.
We are expanding — and we’re looking for a Senior Mining Journalist who genuinely understands the rocks, the markets, and the people behind them.
This is not a junior reporting role.
We want someone who can:
* Break down a complex drill result in minutes
* Spot what actually matters in a 40-page technical announcement
* Call out nonsense
* Improve other journalists’ copy
* Think commercially without compromising editorial integrity
* And ideally… get genuinely excited about a new discovery
If you love geology, capital markets, and storytelling — this role is for you.
The Role
As a Senior Mining Journalist, you will sit at the core of our newsroom.
You will write, edit, mentor, and help shape the voice of Mining.com.au.
What You’ll Do
* Analyse and interpret ASX/TSX mining announcements with speed and precision
* Write clear, authoritative, market-focused news and feature stories
* Identify what is material — and what is noise
* Edit and elevate copy from junior journalists
* Ensure technical accuracy in reporting on geology, resource updates, feasibility studies and production metrics
* Conduct executive interviews (in studio and at conferences)
* Help shape story angles that resonate with investors
* Uphold high editorial standards across all platforms
Who You Are
* 5+ years experience in mining journalism, resource reporting, or mining industry communications
* Strong understanding of geology, exploration results, resource categories, and mining economics
* Comfortable reading JORC tables and understanding what moves markets
* Exceptional writer with strong editorial judgement
* Confident editor who can improve structure, clarity, and impact
* Commercially aware but ethically grounded
* Calm under deadline pressure
* Genuinely curious about the sector
Bonus if you:
* Have worked in the mining industry directly
* Have experience covering ASX and/or Canadian markets
* Have appeared on camera or contributed to video content
Why Join Us
Mining.com.au is not a legacy newsroom.
We are scaling aggressively, investing in multimedia, expanding internationally, and building the most influential mining media platform in the region.
You’ll work in:
* A fast-paced, ambitious newsroom
* A high-autonomy, high-accountability culture
* A team that genuinely cares about the sector
If you’re passionate about rocks, markets, and building something meaningful in the mining industry — we’d love to hear from you.
