Position Information

Tahmoor Public School, located on Dharawal land, has an enrolment of 537 students, with 20% identifying as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and 9% of students with English as an additional language. The school was established in 1917 and is situated on the southern end of a growing semi‐rural town. Our students are placed in 22 mainstream classes and 4 support unit classes. Included in our mainstream classes is an Opportunity Class (OC) which caters for high‐potential and gifted students across the Wollondilly region.

Our staff are enthusiastic, committed to quality teaching and learning, and collaborate in stage, curriculum and wellbeing teams to provide quality experiences and continually seek to implement best practice. Data informs practice to ensure the diverse learning needs of all students are recognised and met. Staff are exposed to current research which underpins and drives their pedagogical understanding and implementation.

Strong community partnerships with the P & C/parent body enhance educational outcomes for students.

Our school is inclusive and offers a range of programs including Band, Operation Art, Sporting Knockouts, Gala days, Southern Stars Dancing performance, The Festival of Instrumental Music, Debating, Student Leadership and Culture Classes. These opportunities help students maximise their potential in creative, intellectual, social‐emotional or physical domains.

Specific Selection Criteria

* Approval to teach special education and/or experience teaching special education
* Demonstrated capacity to lead a support unit in a mainstream setting, including development of individualized programmes and timetables for students with autism and other disabilities to participate meaningfully in specialist and peer classes
* Capacity to collaborate with staff, families and external agencies to design, implement and review personalised learning, behaviour and wellbeing supports that promote student independence, engagement and successful participation across the whole school
* Strong knowledge of inclusive education practices and the ability to build whole‐school staff capability in differentiation, adjustment and approaches that foster belonging, high expectations and respect for diversity
* Proven ability to lead initiatives that strengthen an inclusive school culture and authentic student and staff wellbeing, engagement and community partnerships

General Selection Criteria

* Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
* Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programmes
* Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
* Well‐developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
* Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
* Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy

Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
