About the Role
The position requires a dynamic employee capable of working across divisions and developing skills to assist multidisciplinary teams in development assessment and strategic planning streams. The role provides senior expertise in land use projects and development application functions, initially within the development assessment stream of the Planning and Development Section.
The role operates within a team environment alongside Senior Planning Officers, Planning Officers, Planning Services Officers, Student Planners, Support Officers, and Coordinators. Collaboration across disciplines is essential for informed decision-making, requiring good communication and negotiation skills with stakeholders to balance land use outcomes for the City.
About You
Ideal candidates will have:
* Proven competence as a development assessment specialist with experience in development control, legislative review, and technical advice.
* Knowledge of strategic land use planning practices, including statutory and regional planning.
* Comprehensive understanding of the Planning Act 2016, related legislation, and specific schemes like the Townsville City Waterfront Priority Development Area.
* A minimum of 5 years (preferably 10 years) experience in strategic planning and development assessment.
* Excellent communication, consultation, negotiation, time management, and prioritization skills.
