Marine Rescue NSW is seeking a full-time Technical Officer - Emergency Systems based in Cronulla, NSW. This pivotal role supports the Manager of Emergency Systems in developing, implementing, and maintaining state-wide radio communications and emergency services management systems. You will work closely with the IT team and broader operations to help integrate mission-critical systems and support volunteer members across NSW.

Marine Rescue NSW (MRNSW) operates under the State Emergency and Rescue Management Act, with a vision of being a world-class volunteer rescue service. Our mission is to prevent injury and death on NSW waterways by providing marine search and rescue response, monitoring and responding to marine radio traffic and delivering safety education programs. MRNSW has a contemporary fleet of rescue vessels, state-of-the-art technology and training, and more than 3,500 active volunteer members across 46 geographic units.
Responsibilities
* Support the Manager of Emergency Systems in developing, implementing, and maintaining state-wide radio communications and emergency services management systems.
* Collaborate with the IT team and operations to integrate mission‑critical systems and support volunteer members across NSW.
* Assist with vendor relationships and prioritize competing technical requests in a dynamic environment.
About You
To qualify, you will bring hands-on experience with radio communications and IP network systems, alongside a project management style approach to coordinating technical work. Proven capability in systems administration and managing virtualised environments, particularly VMware, is desirable. You should be comfortable overseeing vendor relationships and balancing priorities in a fast-paced setting. This role suits individuals from a radio or communications background with a solid understanding of contemporary data networks and their integration with radio systems.
Additionally, the following skills and background are highly valued:
* Familiarity with VHF/UHF radio systems
* Practical experience in the maritime or emergency services sector
* Understanding of the radio and telecommunications regulatory environment in Australia
* Experience maintaining virtualisation environments (e.g., VMware)
* IP network knowledge including NBN, MPLS, LTE and microwave systems
