About the role
The biodiversity sector is expanding with new projects in Umwelt’s portfolio, especially as NSW moves towards renewable energy and aims to balance development with conservation and offsetting. This growth presents excellent opportunities for early career ecologists to join a team with steady workflow and diverse projects. We are looking for Field Ecologists in NSW, with consideration for applicants in Sydney and Canberra.
While primarily field-based, the role offers opportunities to develop skills in reporting, project management, and technical expertise as your career progresses. The successful candidate will have some experience in ecological fieldwork, vegetation and flora identification, and species surveys, and will be motivated to travel and work in various environments.
About you
* A degree or post-graduate qualification in environmental science, botany, zoology, or similar.
* Willingness to work flexible hours and travel, including extended trips of a week or more to rural or remote areas.
* Experience with ecological surveys and a passion for flora and fauna.
* Knowledge of NSW Plant Community Types is highly regarded.
* Ability to build positive relationships with stakeholders, including peers, clients, and government agencies.
* Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
* Effective communication skills.
* Experience with GIS and electronic data capture.
* Understanding of WHS principles.
